The Senate chief whip, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, weekend, pledged to deliver votes of people of the South East to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Ahmed Bola Tinubu, in the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu is contesting against the likes of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, pledged to work for Tinubu when he visited him, according to a source privy to what transpired.
The Nation quoted the source to have said, “Though the meeting was very brief, the two leaders had a heart-to-heart discussion with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu pledging to mobilise his people in the South-East region to support and vote Tinubu/Shetimma ticket.
”Senator Orji Uzor Kalu promised to swing into action as soon as the campaign proper starts by the end of the month by combing all the nooks and crannies of the South East region.”
Our correspondent reports that ahead of the presidential primaries of the APC, which produced Tinubu, Orji Kalu supported the candidacy of Senate president Ahmad Lawan, whom he stepped down for. He had said then that North East, where Lawan comes from, has similar marginalisation problems as South East.
