Monica Apeh, a resident of Umuopu, Enugu-Ezike in Igboeze North LGA of Enugu State, Monday, demanded the restructuring of security architecture in the area due to increasing insecurity of the place.

She was reacting to the killing of the wife of a former head of neighbourhood watch group of the community.

Recall that unknown gunmen, Sunday, killed a woman identified as Ogochukwu Onuh at Umuopu community in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze Local Government Area.

The deceased married one Akada, an ex-leader of the community’s neighbourhood watch group.

Our correspondent gathered that the attackers came for the husband, but he managed to escape.

“They were angry, and then shot his wife in the leg,” a witness said, adding that, “she died in the hospital following excessive bleeding.”

According to reports, the gunmen attacked Akada’s home but he managed to escape so they shot his wife.

Mrs Apeh told our correspondent that, “There is need to reposition the security architecture of Igboeze North LGA generally. We share boundaries with Kogi and Benue states. We don’t know where our problem is coming from.

“I recall that a former chief security officer of the LGA was also killed. There is presence of military in our LGA, and crimes are still high.”

Our correspondent reports that due to insecurity in the area, the Enugu State government some months ago imposed a curfew in the LGA.
