By Adadainfo

The National Association of Nigerian Students will close the Abuja-Kaduna expressway tomorrow in continuation of efforts to make the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities reach a truce to call off ASUU’s seven-months’ old strike.

The strike began on 14th February this year, with ASUU demanding improved funding of university education in the country, among others.

The FG had dragged ASUU to the Industrial Court, which is expected to rule on the matter tomorrow.

The blockade of Abuja-Kaduna road was contained in a statement seen by our correspondent. It was signed by the chairman of NANS Taskforce to End ASUU Strike in Kaduna State, Dominic Philip.

The statement directed all national executive members of the union and student leaders in various campuses in the state to converge on Kaduna on Wednesday to implement the blockade.

It read, “In respect to the nation-wide protest by our dear association NANS in demand of ASUU strike to be called off, I write to inform you of the total shutdown of the Abuja-Kaduna expressway end at Gonin Gora by Federal Cooperative College, Kaduna.

“In this regard, all National Excos, Zonal Excos in Kaduna, JCC b7, SUG’s/ SRC executives, parents, good spirited countrymen and women, and gentlemen of the press are, by this circular, invited.

“All SUGs in the state are to mobilise with their union vehicles and personal vehicles to the venue.”
