An economist, Dr Oliseh Mba, Sunday, commended Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State over moves to dredge Oguta lake and Orashi river. Dr Mba, a lecturer, stated this in Owerri in an interview with our correspondent.
He said, “It will be the greatest legacy of the governor. Dredging of rivers and lakes has been politicised in the South East over the years. Kudos will surely go to President Muhammad Buhari.
“When completed, it will create jobs as economic activities will be boosted. The multiplier effect will be great.”
Recall that Governor Uzodimma made this known during an assessment of the area in company of the Nigeria Navy on the need to create enabling environment for the Navy to patrol the waterways for the security of lives and property.
He said the state government found it imperative to propose to the federal government on the need to pursue her gas industrialization policy on the Oguta Lake and Orashi River axis.
He said the project would aid in managing the security situation, eliminate crude oil theft and pipe line vandalism and also clear hindrances along Oguta lake and Orashi River to aid bigger vasesels to come in
