Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike never supported the emergence of a president of Nigeria from South East even when it should be the turn of the easterners. This was the submission of Barr Ray Nnaji, a member of the Atiku Abubakar campaign team in the 2023 general elections, while featuring on Enugu DreamFm’s political progamme on Monday.
According to him, “It was Wike that chased Peter Obi out of the PDP when he met him in Awka and told him that he was wasting his time, that PDP will never give him its ticket. Wike chose the emergence of a northerner as the chairman of the PDP.
“He also ensured that his friend, Gov Samuel Ortom of River State, was in the zoning arrangement of the presidency of the party, and Ortom could not influence throwing the slot open by the committee. His annoyance is that his friend and Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal supported Atiku in the eleventh hour at the convention. Then Atiku’s failure to choose him as his presidential candidate contributed a lot.”
He said despite Wike’s outbursts, “Atiku will still win the presidency because APC has nothing to show. APC has no campaign slogan.”
