An Ebonyi High Court, sitting in Abakaliki, Thursday, sentenced one Lucky Godwin to death by hanging. Lucky was found guilty of stabbing one Chinyere to death inside a hotel room in Abakaliki.
He was also found guilty of stealing the deceased’s two year-old girl, whom he traded at Akwukabi Echie, River State.
Our correspodent gathered that Lucky lured Chinyere and her two-year-old child to Abakaliki from Enugu. The deceased and her child lodged at Crown Garden Hotel, Abakaliki, where Lucky killed her with a knife said to have been given to him by a guard of the hotel, identified as Monday Onwe, who was said to have been paid N30, 000.
The corpse of the deceased was found decomposed in 2018, a source said.
Also, Lucky was accused of attempting to kill one Chisom Ugwu, who was pregnant. The attempt was made at a bush behind Girls’ High School, Azuiyikowu, in Abakaliki. He also stole the victim’s two-year-old baby. The event happened on 06/11/2018.
The pregnant woman was rescued behind the school, and close to Crown Garden Hotel, it was gathered. She was stabbed in her neck, abdomen, and back and was in a coma when she was found.
Justice Ihenanchor Chima sentenced the accused to death by hanging. However, the guard was freed for lack of evidence.
