ASUU Suspends Eight Months’ Old Strike

By Adadainfo

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities says the lecturers’ union has agreed to call off its eight months’ old strike.

This is after ASUU’s NEC meeting held through Thursday night till Friday morning. Our correspondent reports that the union said it would make a formal announcement on the suspension of the strike this morning.

The strike started on Feb 14 2022, and was prompted by the federal government’s failure to fulfill its agreement with the union.

Recall that the National Industrial Court had, by granting an injunction sought by the federal government, ordered the lecturers to call off the strike pending the determination of the substantive suit.

ASUU appealed the judgement through its counsel Femi Falana, with the appellate court mandating it to obey the ruling of the lower court, or it would lose the right to appeal on the matter.
