One Uchendu Uchechukwu, 25, narrowly survived being killed when her lover, Nonso, a native doctor, lured her to his house and attempted to bury her alive for money rituals.

The incident happened at Umuona Village, Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The suspect wanted to cut the lady’s throat after digging a four-fit grave at the back of his compound to bury her alive, a source said.

Adadareporters.com gathered that in 2021, she met Nonso, and he promised to marry her.

A native of the community, on condition of anonymity, said on the day of the incident, Nonso invited her to his house for a present.

“He even sent an Okada rider to go and pick her. She arrived and Nonso asked her to tie her eyes for a package. It was when her eyes were tied that he used a knife to slit her throat. She struggled to survive. Nonso succeeded in pushing her inside an already dug grave.”

The source said when Nonso attempted to cover her inside, she began to shout, which alerted Nonso’s elder sister, who ran to the scene and called neighbours.

He was later arrested by the police, and his case taken to the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Court, sitting in Awka and presided over by Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe.

The suspect is presently remanded at the Correctional Center, while the police were ordered to transmit the original case file to the office of the attorney general of the state.
