Pius Ajumobi, Former MD National Bank, Dies At 85

Pius Ajumobi, former managing director of the defunct National Bank, is dead. He was aged 85.

Our correspodent gathered that the renowned banker died on Friday at Mercy Hospital, Isikan, Akure, Ondo State.

His death was confirmed by the traditional ruler of Isinkan, Oba Oluwagbemiga Olofin-Adimula.

Ajumobi led the Aso Ugbosanmi people in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state. He also served as a top inspector with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) before his retirement.

He was charged by the federal government to reposition, reform and rebrand the National Bank prior to its market re-capitalization and sale. Hitherto, he served as the comptroller of audit for the defunct Owena Bank.

He attended the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom where he studied banking and economics. He was acknowledged as an Apostle of Fiscal Prudence.

Ajumobi left behind his wife, Olufunmilayo, children and grandchildren.
