Professor Magaji Garba, former vice chancellor, Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, has been sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment after being found culpable in N260m fraud.
Justice Maryam Hassan Aliyu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Garki, Abuja, found the scholar guilty on a five-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and forgery.
The sentence followed the charges brought against the professor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The conviction was secured on Thursday.
The former VC was first arraigned on October 12, 2021 for committing fraud in a N3 billion perimetre fencing deal of the university.
Our correspodent gathered that the offence is contrary to section 1 (1) (a) and punishable under section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
