Dr Doyin Okupe, the director general of Peter Obi Campaign Organization in the 2023 elections, was Monday jailed two years in prison over money laundering. Obi is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Okupe was jailed by a Federal High Court, Abuja, Monday, after being found guilty of 26 out of a 59-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over corruption when he served former President Goodluck Jonathan as an adviser.

Presiding judge Ijeoma Ojukwu jailed Okupe to two years in prison on each of the counts. The sentence is to run concurrently.

He was however also given an option of a N500,000 fine on each of the counts — totalling N13 million.
