Boycotting 2023 Elections In S’East Will Hurt Ndigbo – GOC Nwadike

By Adadainfo

Comrd GOC Nwadike, state youth leader, Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State, has cautioned against the boycott of the 2023 general elections in the Southeast under any guise.

Nwadike told newsmen in Enugu, Monday, that actively participating in the forthcoming elections would augur well for the Igbo nation.

Nwadike spoke against the backdrop of calls for the boycott of the elections as being championed by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, led by Mr Simon Ekpa, among others.

In his words, “I’m of the view that boycotting elections would not augur well with our region. You recall that during the last census, the then MASSOB, led by Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, deceived us not to take part in the census.

“It did not stop the census from holding, but today it placed our region as one of the least in number. We are still paying the price.

“In some other countries where agitations for sovereignty are ongoing, such as Spain (Catalonia), Cameroon (Ambazadonia), etc, you still have members and agitators of these agitating countries as members of Parliament. They stay there and speak for their people.

“Telling our people of Southeast not to take part in elections would hurt our people and region as we do not have the number or force to stop general elections. Elections would hold. People will be imposed on us if we don’t take part, and we will continue to suffer bad governance.

“It’s my view that we take part in elections, and vote in responsible leadership that will be for us.”

The PDP youth leader further called for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, having been discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal on 13th Oct. 2022.

Kanu is currently being detained at the custody of the Department of the State Services. He is being tried over alleged running a proscribed group, jumping bail and treason.

Comrd Nwadike said, “I want to join in calling on the President Buhari administration to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB.

“Courts had freed the man. I see no reason for his continued detention. Freedom to MNK would bring about resting of the crises in the South-East region.”
