Frank Nweke Jr, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, on Monday entered a social contract with the people of Ngwo as he honoured their invitation to a grand reception.

The social contract, which documented the needs of the people, was presented at an event hosted at the Akama Ngwo Town Hall grounds by the chairman, Ngwo Clan Assembly, Mr Kenneth Ani. He said that the invitation to Nweke was inspired by their seers, who were certain that he would become the next governor of the state.

The secretary general of the assembly, Barrister Alex Amujiogu; the community’s woman leader, Mrs Edith Ozoani, and a few others recalled the part Nweke played in ensuring that Ama Breweries was cited at Ngwo by ensuring that disputes arising from land appropriation for the factory were amicably resolved.

Nweke thanked the people for their warm reception and praised the discipline and organisation displayed by the community’s leadership.

He noted that in his manifesto for restoring Enugu’s lost glory, a disciplined and visionary leadership was the first pillar that all other plans rested on. He said the right leadership would determine the success or failure of any venture, noting that the nurture and upbringing he received from his parents constrained him from inappropriate actions that may bring disrepute to his family name.

He said his administration would ensure that the right leaders ‘are given the opportunity to work across all levels of the government and local government authorities given the autonomy to carry out its statutory responsibilities without negative interference from the State government’

He promised to prioritise the welfare of workers, restating that a special plan would be put in place to ensure the payment of all pensions and gratuities that are owed by the state.

Highlighting that his decision to select a female deputy gubernatorial candidate was intentional, he declared that women would play major roles in their government and special attention would be accorded to their welfare because ‘of the crucial role they play in the home and in the society’.

On the provision of employment, the governorship candidate said they would create the enabling environment for businesses to invest in the state in the same way Ama Breweries was attracted to provide jobs for the teeming population of graduates and skilled workers.

He also outlined their plans for restoring water supply, ensuring the security of lives and property, transforming the health and educational sectors, amongst others.

Nweke had earlier paid a courtesy call on Ndi Ozo Ndi Ngwo consisting of Chief Anthony Amujiogu and the Onowu, Chief Evaristus Okwo, who extolled the leadership qualities of the APGA governorship hopeful and prayed for the success of his quest to become the governor.

On Nweke’s team at Ngwo were the APGA senatorial candidate for Enugu East, Hon Uche Nwegbo; the party’s state chairman and senatorial candidate for Enugu West, Hon Ndubisi Enechionyia; the House of Assembly candidate for Enugu South Rural Constituency, Comrade Chinedu Nyia Nwobodo, and the House of Assembly candidate for Enugu North, Hon Bethel Chukwuemeka Agu, Hon Nechi Ene, House of Assembly candidate for Udi South, and other party members and supporters.
