Senate: LP’s Okey Ezea Causes Upset, Defeats Gov Ugwuanyi

Barr Okey Ezea of the Labour Party has won the Enugu North senatorial election held on 15th Feb 2023. Ezea polled 104,492 votes to emerge victorious.

Mr Chukwuemeka Ubaka, the returning officer of the election, announced the result at Nsukka on Monday.

The incumbent governor of Enugu State, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, came second with 46,948 votes. Ugwuanyi, a two-term governor of the state, contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. Amb Ejike Eze of the All Progressives Congress scored 6,816 votes to come third.

There was also another upset as the current member representing Isi-Uzo/Enugu-East Federal Constituency, Mr Cornelius Nnaji, was defeated by Mr Paul Nnamchi of the Labour Party.

Nnamchi got 50, 308 votes to outwit Nnaji, a former council chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, who scored 16, 239 votes.

The result was declared Monday morning by the returning officer, Prof Emma Chinedu Ibezim.
