The management of Hotel Carolina, Nsukka, Saturday, denied the alleged arrest of some thugs in their premises.

The manager of the hotel, Mr Ibekwe Ferdinand, described the news as unfounded. He was reacting to a media report that armed thugs numbering about 140 were arrested by men of the Nigerian Army in their premises.Friday night.

Ibekwe said, “It is not true. We are running a reputable business. I am here to confirm to you that nothing as such happened. It was my friends that called me this morning, and informed me about the trending news.”

Media reports had it that, “Men of the Nigerian Army late Friday night stormed New Carolina Hotel, and arrested about a dozen heavily armed mercenaries who were obviously hired to intimidate voters in Nsukka during the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections.

“The thugs, who were found with sophisticated weapons, were still held as of midnight inside the hotel. Reports say the soldiers, who acted on a tipoff, searched the suspects and found AK-47 and pump action rifles on them. They were then tortured.

“At least 10 of the thugs, who were brought in from Kogi State, escaped from the hotel on Obollo Road, Obukpa, near the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.”

Enugu State Police Command’s PPRO, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, didn’t respond to a request put across to him for confirmation.
