The Benue State Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom, has extolled his Rivers State counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike, for reaching out and embracing all Nigerians irrespective of their geopolitical zones.

Governor Ortom stated this on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 in his remarks while inaugurating Mgbuoba/ Ada-George Flyover Bridge in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State constructed by the Wike administration.

The governor hailed Wike’s pan-Nigerian disposition saying, “I thank you very much for being a pacesetter, a friendly Governor and also ensuring that you reach out to the other parts of Nigeria.”

He continued: “You have done well by reaching out to some of us. Many Nigerians from North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-South, South-East and South-West have been here to commission projects.

“This is what we call bridge-building. This is what we call working together and complementing each other. I believe that all those who have come here and have had the privilege of commissioning projects have one or two things to learn just like myself have so much to learn. You’re a good man, God will bless you.”

Governor Ortom acknowledged Wike’s achievements saying that “We are 36 Governors in Nigeria today and I know that you have been to Benue State to commission a number of projects but, if I were to rate the governors in Nigeria today, I would rate Governor Nyesom Wike as number one in terms of project and impact and value addition to the development of the State.”

He further stated that “You have done well. Your name is already written in the sands of time in gold for all that you have been able to do for your people here in Rivers State” noting that Wike has made politics and democracy more meaningful to many people in the country and have also given people hope.

“For me, I know that other states too have performed including me, I may not be number one but I know i have done well just like many others,” Ortom declared.

On his friendship with Wike, Governor Ortom maintained that “It is said that a good friend no matter how far he is, is better than a bad brother. You’re that good friend and God will bless you. I am very proud of you, I am proud of your achievements and I am proud of the support that your people have given back to you. They have reciprocated all the things you have for them.”

The governor expressed optimism that Wike’s successor who will take over on May 29th, 2023 will continue to build on his good works, praying that the incoming Governor will even do better.
