The Independent National Electoral Commission, Wednesday, failed to produce any witness to defend its case in a petition filed by Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party challenging the outcome of the March 18, 2023 guber election in Enugu state.

INEC, through its lawyer, HI Okoli, told the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal when the matter came up today that, “We have reviewed the case and decided we cannot present any witness.”

Recall that INEC, Tuesday, also failed to present its witnesses, claiming that its proposed witnesses had problems on the road, hence sought the adjournment to Wednesday.

Edeoga is challenging the results that INEC declared in favour of Gov Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election. He claimed over-voting at some polling units, miscalculation of election results and irregularities in Udenu LGA of the state.

Meanwhile, the second respondent, Gov Peter Mbah, today, opened his case against LP guber candidate’s allegations that Mbah, a lawyer, forged his NYSC discharge certificate, as well as engaged in malpractices.

Asiwaju Ademoyega Awomolo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is leading Edeoga’s legal team.
