One Mr Akuchieani Echezona, resident of Ifite-Awka in Anambra State, has been arrested at a popular hotel in Awka in possession of a gun.
He was arrested by the surveillance operatives of Anambra State Police Command, the state police public relations officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said on Sunday.
According to him, “Surveillance operatives who observed the man prowling around the premises on 20th July 2023 accosted him, and conducted a search on his person. One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.”
Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered the state CID, Awka, to take over the case and investigate the source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.
Ikenga said the suspect would be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigations.
