WE CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE: ALL EYES ON THE JUDICIARY
By Iyke Newman Nkemdirim
The truth is constant and forceful.
There has not been in recent times a more trying period for the judiciary than now.
From North to the South, East to West, Nigerians home and abroad and indeed the world over are waiting patiently even prayerfully on the judiciary for the very last chance to pull the country out of the impending catastrophy.
It has been from one level of infamy to another such that the last hope of the common man, as we say, is at the verge of losing its essence and relevance.
Nigeria has faltered for too long and even now badly overdue for an implosion. For long the masses have held back, waiting and looking up in hope that somehow sanity will win over insanity, goodness over evil and decency over criminality.
The last general election apparently is the last card, the last straw as it were to determine if our bubble blossoms or bursts. The task before their Lordships is a walk in the park if they choose to be true. Evidently, credibility was trashed, illegality was entrenched and falsehood taken a million notches higher.
The matter before the election tribunal, as it were, is as clear as a cloudless sky, and the facts as undeniable as the sunshine on a sunny day. It is therefore in the interest of justice, equity and peace that the tribunal judges should see themselves as missioners and agents of peace and stability.
Nigeria and indeed the world awaits to see if these men representing the the Judiciary and the temple of justice will stand true or fail and fall so low.
With the armada of fraud associated with the declared presidential winner, it will be both fatal and suicidal if the judiciary slips as the nation will slip off into unimaginable chaos. In their hands lies the turn-out of not just Nigeria but a large chunk of the African continent.
The judiciary cannot afford to stumble just so the country doesn’t go up in flames and come crumbling. What will become of our country is so predictable and posterity will not be kind on all who aided and abetted her demise.
THE POSITION OF THE CITIZENS IS GLARING, THEIR DEFIANCE IS THICK AND OBVIOUSLY PAYING WHAT LOOKS LIKE A LAST RESPECT OF THEIR CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY IN A MOST CIVIL MANNER; WAITING FOR THE WRONGS TO BE RIGHTED, HENCE ALL EYES ON THE JUDICIARY.
