A yet-to-be-identified gang, Monday, set vehicles on fire and attacked traders at Ezzamgbo junction along the Abakaliki Enugu highway in Ohanukwu local government area of Ebonyi State.

A video obtained by our correspondent displayed burning vehicles and motorcycles while terrified residents scamper for safety. It was gathered that the incident occurred Monday morning.

The attackers came in a Sienna vehicle, firing shots to cause chaos, and then setting vehicles on fire, a source said. It is not clear if human lives were lost.

The state police spokesperson, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said security personnel had been deployed in the affected areas. The police image-maker however did not explain further.

Sit-at-home was declared on Mondays in South-East states since 2021 following the arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The group is agitating for the actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra. Though Kanu personally cancelled it, some of his sympathisers still observe to show solidarity.
