Many Nigerian Leaders Parade Fake Certificates – EU Alleges

In the aftermath of Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Eastern Union claims many Nigerian political office-holders and civil servants are flaunting fake credentials. EU is a pressure group propagating the entrenchment of democratic tenets in Nigeria.

Our correspondent reports that on the front-burner of many election petition cases at various tribunals is forgery, with the climax being the one concerning the release of documents of President Bola Tinubu by Chicago State University to former vice-president Atiku Abubakar. Atiku, of the Peoples Democratic Party, sought Tinubu’s documents to prove his case at the Supreme Court that Tinubu, of APC, forged documents he submitted for his election.

Hon Charles Anike, national president of EU, told our reporter in Abuja on Sunday that, “Nigeria’s present crop of leaders are serial forgers and fraudsters. Many of them don’t have genuine and verifiable certificates. If proper screening is carried out, heads will roll, especially in our civil service. This is because our present political space has been hijacked and largely dominated by men and women with fraudulent backgrounds and school dropouts who now see political positions as the easiest way to loot and amass wealth.

“That’s why we will continue endlessly to discover more and more forgeries and discrepancies in the documents of our leaders. The only way forward is to revolutionize our institutions and weed out all the bad eggs in the system. To the forgers nothing matters and nothing is at stake. They don’t believe in orderliness, but rather they believe in cutting corners and shortcuts of which has become their acceptable ways of life. To them everything goes.”
