LP Senators’ Silence In National Assembly ‘Disappointing’, Party Chieftain

The tacit stance of senators elected on the platform of the Labour Party partaining to allegations of fraud made by Bauchi senator Abdul Ningi ‘is disappointing’.

Chief Nnadume Offorkansi, chairman, Labour Party, Enugu West senatorial zone, stated this on Monday in Enugu.

He said, “The quietness of senators of the LP all this while is against the principle of the Obedient Movement. Mr Peter Obi has an ideology, and we wanted our elected senators to replicate same at the National Assembly. From all indications, our NASS members have joined the bandwagon.”

Offorkansi condemned the suspension of Senator Ningi for three months by the Senate, adding that the Senate acted beyond their capacity.

In his words, “The Senate does not need to act on it. It is rather the role of the police to investigate the matter. Ningi’s suspension is unfair to the people he represents who have been denied legislative presence for three months. I think the Senate acted beyond its powers. Have they investigated it to know if it is true?

“It is a pity that our senators are using funds for constituency projects as their personal money. Senators have no business executing projects. They are lawmakers. It is the executive arm that oversees projects execution. The Senate can only oversight.

“I have always had reservations on Senator Godswill Akpabio becoming the Senate president. He had questions to answer at the EFCC. I feel disappointed that LP senators have not condemned what is happening at the Senate.”

Recall that Senator Ningi had alleged the inclusion of N3.5trn to the 2024 budget by the Senate, without projects attachment. The allegation led to his suspension in the Senate for three months.
