Two Arrested In Anambra Over Unlawful Possession Of Pistol

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command on 19/5/2024 by 12:25pm intercepted two young men in a tricycle along Amawbia, Nibo road and recovered one locally made pistol and a tricycle from them.

This followed a rejigged personnel operational positioning of the operatives as directed by the commissioner of police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam.

The suspects, both 25 years old, were identified as Chigozie Echiebu of Urum Village, Awka LGA, and Edwin Emmanuel of Nkerefi Village in Nkanu East of Enugu State.

“The suspects have provided police with information on their mode of operations and names of other gang members which is already aiding the ongoing investigation,” the state police PRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said on Monday.

He said the CP had directed that the investigation be widened to bring to book all those connected, and that the case be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigation.

In another development, the Anambra State Police Command has launched investigations into the murder of one Barr Peter Awah, the secretary of Okija Development Union.

Barr Awah was allegedly murdered by some unknown assailants around 11pm on Sunday at Eke Umudioka, Okija.

According to SP Ikenga, “Preliminary information reveals that the assailants operating on motorbikes shot the deceased as he was about to alight from his vehicle for safety when he was approached by the murderers.” He added that some eyewitnesses had provided details that are already aiding the investigations.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has commiserated with the family, friends of the deceased, the Nigeria Bar Association and the people of Okija. He also directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a comprehensive probe into the incident.
