The six lawmakers of the Labour Party that defected to the Peoples Democratic Party at the Enugu State House of Assembly will lose their seats.
The state chairman of LP, Barr Casmir Agbo, stated this in Enugu on Monday during a programme monitored by our correspondent. Agbo said, “We are going to declare their seats vacant. We have filed a suit in court, and ready for the legal battle to the Supreme Court.”
Recall that Ejike Eze (Igboeze North I), Johnson Ugwu (Enugu North), Princess Ugwu (Enugu South Rural), Pius Ezeugwu (Nsukka West), Amuka Williams (Igbo-Etiti East) and Osita Eze (Oji River) defected to the PDP, thus making hitherto majority LP to become minority in the state Assembly.
The party chairman regretted lack of opposition in the politics of Nigeria. He recalled that opposition died during the Obasanjo administration when the likes of Alh Bola Tinubu and former President Mohammadu Buhari courageously fought the government. He said, “Their tenacity made them popular. Tinubu stood his ground on the withheld federal allocations to Lagos State. Buhari was firm using his Congress for Progressive Change. Today, it is LP and the All Progressives Congress. Mr Peter Obi has proven to be the opposition. Atiku Abubakar returns to Nigeria from Dubai every four years to contest elections, and disappears afterwards.”
He recalled that it was only Peter Obi that stood his ground that the demolition as a result of the proposed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Line, which started in Lagos, could have been averted if the construction had begun from the Calabar axis that has no building structures.
He said the dearth of opposition in the polity “is because our elected lawmakers are not prepared to challenge the government. What are they even doing in the parliament? The opposition nationwide are not courageous enough. They are afraid of governors and the president who are the emperors.”
On the purported merger of LP and PDP ahead of the 2027 polls, Agbo said, “APC is disturbed. If PDP and LP unite, APC will be out of power in 2027. APC won’t win in 2027 with their money.”
