Residents of Aji community in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State were last night forced into hiding following gunshots in the area.
The gang behind the shooting is not known, a resident told our correspondent.
According to the source, “It all started in the evening. We thought the shots were from military men enforcing the curfew imposed on our local government area by the state government.
“When the shooting intensified, we sought refuge. Maybe the unknown gunmen were behind it. They had threatened to attack the military checkpoint at Ogrute. We pray for peace to return to our place.”
“It was terrible,” said another resident. “The shots sounded as if we were in a war.”
Aji is in Igboeze North Local Government Area where attacks by unknown gunmen had been rampant, including the killing of some police personnel and burning of property.
The increasing attacks by the unknown gunmen led to the imposing of 6pm to 6am curfew on the LGA.
