The Mainland Community near the Akanu Ibiam International Airport has been thrown into darkness following a complete draining of their transformer oil by vandals on the early hours of last Saturday July 2nd.
The residents reported the incident to the Osimiri Office of the Enugu- Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
The prompt action of the EEDC officials averted further damage to the transformer.
As at the time of filing this report the residents have resorted to using generators by those that have and can fuel it while the majority are living in darkness with businesses suffering.
It should be recalled that last year August, the same transformer located beside First Bank Nigeria Plc branch had her cables vandalised to which the residents had to contribute for it’s replacement.
As one resident who pleaded for anonymity said” these vandals are risking their lives, as one vandal was electrocuted in Okija just last week: many days for the thief, one day for the Owner of the house.
