The Osun State election has come and gone, with a lot of political calculations that facilitated the victory of Sen Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party.
In the result released by INEC, Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola who scored 375,027.
Mr Ebubeagu Okafor, the coordinator of APC in the state, said the rift between interior minister Rauf Aregbesola, and APC’s national leader, Bola Tinubu, contributed to the development.
He said, “You can see that before the election, Aregbesola travelled to Germany. Instead of staying in the state to galvanize his supporters to vote for his party, he decided to play a game of neutrality.
“Also religious factors contributed immensely to the fall of ruling party in the state.”
Olu Kikiola, a resident of Osogbo, said, “The introduction of hijab by the incubent governor in all missionary schools in the state was part of the downfall.
“People of Osun, especially Christians, weren’t comfortable with it. They viewed it as religious supremacy on the side of Islam over Christianity in the state.”
