Business operators at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Thursday, lamented lack of patronage following the ongoing nationwide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities in the country.
Adadainfo visited the business centre unit of the campus, located behind the Faculty of Arts building. The once-bubbling place is now overgrown by weeds. About three business operators were seen playing games.
One of them said, “I’m tired of staying at home. I come here to while away time. In some days, I don’t make a dime.”
Mrs Felicia Mbachu said, “I don’t know how to describe our current situation. I used to complement my husband’s incomes from here, but since the strike began about five months ago, nothing tangible has happened.
“Some JUPEB candidates come around once in a while to do photocopies. You can see, just a handful of us still come around because we live very close. Other operators have shut down.”
She appealed for quick resolution of the impasse between the federal government and members of the union.
