Reports claim the Enugu State government did not commence the construction of the proposed roundabout and the iconic tower at Opi-Nsukka junction along 9th Mile-Makurdi federal expressway because the contract for the road had been awarded.
A realiable source from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Abuja, told AIF Media that the ministry, in response to the formal letter written by Enugu State government requesting approval for the construction of the projects on the federal road, turned down the request, stating that the federal government had awarded the contract for the dualization of Enugu-9th Mile-Makurdi road.
The source explained the contract for the dualization of Enugu-9th Mile-Makurdi federal road is to be executed using the China Exim Bank Buyers Preferential Credit Loan, adding that the federal government is finalizing the documentation process for the commencement of works on the road.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration had desired to construct the roundabout and tower at the Opi-junction as a deserving facelift and identity for the university town of Nsukka, the second largest city in Enugu State.
