Mr Titus Ugwu, a renowned teacher from Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has called on Nigerians who passed a teaching process to be grateful to their teachers.
Mr Ugwu made the demand on his Facebook page in commemoration of the World Teachers’ Day, which is marked on 5th October every year.
According to him, “Teachers are great. No controversy. If we teach you, don’t cheat us.
“If you can write your name, thank your teacher. Teachers made you what you are. Happy Teachers’ Day Celebration.”
Charles Ume, a student, told our correspodent that, “I would have loved to be a teacher, but they are not accorded the recognition the deserve.”
The World Teachers’ Day, also called International Teachers Day, is globally held annually on October 5.
It was inaugurated in 1994, specifically to mark the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers around the world.
The recommendation, among others, stipulates matters relating to education personnel policy, recruitment, and initial training and the continuing education of teachers, their employment, and working conditions.
