An akatakpa masquerade that was hit by a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called Okada, has died as a result of injuries he sustained in the incident.
He was reported dead on Saturday at an undisclosed hospital. The incident occurred at Nkwo, Ezimo-Uno in Udenu local government area of Enugu State last Thursday.
It was gathered that the masquerade was hit frontally by the motorcycle, and he fell inside a gutter, hitting his head on a concrete surface in the process.
The masqurade was said to have been on the main road alongside other masquerades and their flutists when the incident occurred.
The commercial motorcyclist was reported to have sustained fractures, with his passengers also incurring varying degrees of wounds.
A concerned citizen, on condition of anonymity, advised road users to be cautious, especially this yuletide.
He said, “The incident was avoidable. It is unfortunate indeed. The young man just died that way. If he had been mindful of the road, he wouldn’t have stood in a dangerous position.
“The rider himself ought to have been cautious.”
