Enugu State commissioner of police, Mr Abubakar Lawal, Friday, assured Ogbete-Mgbuji in Eha-Amufu Community of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of adequate security.
The visit was informed by the recent resurgent violent attacks at the community, the state police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated in a release.
It would be recalled that yet-to-be identified assailants, on 13/06/2022, attacked and murdered three male victims at Ogbete-Mgbuji area of the community.
The victims were confirmed dead by doctors and deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, the state police command said.
The CP, alongside the state director, Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu, H. M. Daluwa; the commander, 82 Division Garrison Command of the Nigerian Army Enugu, Brig Gen M. K. Ibrahim; commander, 553 Services Base Group of the Nigerian Air Force Enugu, Air Commodore I. A. Taiwo, and other senior police officers visited Eha-Amufu community to assess the security situation in the area.
The community had of late witnessed kidnapping and other recurring crimes. A native of the area claimed that the pepertrators were Fulani herders.
According to him, “The victims are mainly within farm settlements of the community, bordering Enugu and Benue states.”
The commissioner used the opportunity to interact with members of the community at Obibi-Mgbuji Village Square.
He re-assured them of police and other security agencies’ commitment to ‘decisively tackle the violent attacks in the area’.
He, however, called on them to be vigilant, law-abiding and promptly volunteer useful information to help security operatives to contain activities of the assailants.
The CP and his entourage were received by the area commander, Udenu Area Command, ACP Edwin Egwuekwe, and a team of Isi-Uzo council area leadership, led by the vice chairman, Mr Ogechukwu Nnamani, according to the state police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.
