Friday, July 15, 2022 has been fixed for the National Para Sports Federations Elections in Abuja, the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports said Wednesday.
This followed the dissolution of boards of seven para-sports federations on Tuesday March 8, 2022 after the expiration of their four-year tenure on February 27, 2022.
The director press and public relations of the ministry, Mohammed Manga, in a statement, listed the federations as Amputee Football, Para Athletics, Para Powerlifting, Para Soccer, Sitting Volleyball, Para Swimming, and Wheelchair Basketball.
He said the ministry would conduct free, fair and credible elections into the boards.
According to him, “It is also imperative to state that each board of the gederations shall comprise six zonal representatives (each representing a geo-political zone in the country).
“They include one athletes’ representative of the sport; one representative of the National Association of Women in Sports (NAWIS); one epresentative of National Association of Physical, Health, Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD);
one philanthropist/sponsor; one representative of coach and officiating official (technical bodies of the sport); while a secretary general shall be appointed by the ministry.
“The zonal elections, based on the timeline of activities lined up for the exercise, are also expected to hold in the six geo-political zones of the country on July 5, 2022 while the newly constituted boards will be inaugurated in a date to be announced later.”
