The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has accused Ohanaeze Ndigbo and South-East stakeholders of not adopting a holistic approach towards finding a lasting solution to insecurity in the zone.
The pro-Biafra group said a recent South-East security meeting held in Owerri by the leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, South-East governors, National Assembly members from South East, traditional/religious and opinion leaders from South East without involving the leaders of pro-Biafra organizations was ineffective.
MASSOB leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, made the remarks in a press statement on Tuesday.
According to him, “Seventy per cent of escalated insecurities and fears in the South-East region was as a result of the activities of the so-called unknown gunmen that was attached to Biafran agitation.
“There are more than twenty-four pro Biafra organizations engaged in self determination for restoration and actualization of Biafra, many choose nonviolent methodology like MASSOB while few others resort to arms struggle.
“Organizing a South-East security summit that involves the same politicians that fuel the insecurities in Igbo land will not solve the problem.
“Leading the so-called Igbo political, religious and traditional leaders to Alhaji Bola TInubu in Abuja will never solve the insecurities crises in southeast region.”
Madu said only the unconditional release of Mazi Nnanmdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, whom Nigerian courts already discharged would solve the insecurity question in South-East region.
Quoting him, “MASSOB is not begging the Nigerian federal government to release Mazi Nnanmdi Kanu. There is no case charge against him now because he has been discharged by a Federal High Court.”
