Dr Dennis Oguerinwa Amadi, Labour Party’s senatorial candidate for Enugu West senatorial district, Tuesday, rejected the ruling of the National Assembly Petition Tribunal in Enugu which affirmed the victory of Senator Osita Ngwu.
Tony Udegbu, director general of Amadi’s Enugu West Campaign Organization, stated this in a release shortly after the judgement.
While commending the solidarity of his supporters, Amadi said he would work towards recovering ‘our stolen mandate to represent the good people of Enugu West senatorial district’.
The release read, “What happened today at the tribunal is a continuation of the attempt to suppress the will of our people. I can assure you that that miscarriage of justice will not stand.
“Be that as it may, be rest assured that God is still saying something. In a few days time, we will be heading to the Appeal Court to continue the struggle to reclaim our mandate and enmacipate our people.”
The tribunal had upheld the victory of Ngwu of the Peoples Democratic Party on the ground that the petitioner committed an error in presenting his case by merging allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Law and corrupt practices.
In view of the tribunal, both charges should have been separated, and particularised with facts to support both positions.
On the allegation of over-voting, the court held that the petitioner could not situate his pleadings despite bringing witnesses that gave evidence on that and ballot papers.
The court ruled that the presented ballot papers were dumped on the court, and ‘there’s no evidence showing where the ballot papers emanated’.
