Man Kills Brother Over N1, 500 Electricity Bills In Anambra

A middle-aged man is now in the police custody for allegedly shooting his elder brother to death at Okpunoeze village, Uruagu in Nnewi in Anambra State.

The suspect, Peter Orji, allegedly killed his elder brother, Mr Godwin Orji, for disconnecting his flat’s electricity line over non-payment of his electricity bills.

The incident followed an altercation that ensued between the two brothers over electricity bills and disconnection of light, according to an eye witness.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect, Peter Orji, failed to pay his monthly EEDC bills of N1, 500 which made the brother disconnect his flat’s light, an action that caused them to have a quarrel in the compound.

The suspect rushed into his room, grabbed a gun and shot dead his elder brother, a source said.

The state police public relations officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect had been arrested by police operatives in the area.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, Mr Echeng Echeng, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the state Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigations.
