The Anambra State Police Command, weekend, said efforts were on to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the killing of a couple by their son in Anambra State.
The suspect is said to be an undergraduate. He allegedly killed his parents after an argument over their refusal to give him money, according to police sources.
The incident occurred at the compound of Moses Nnodu at Abubor Nnewichi, Nnewi. Sources said the suspect killed his parents and locked the dead bodies inside the house and ran away.
It was the smelling of their decomposing corpses that attracted the attention of neighbours, a witness said. Another source said the suspect was an addict of Methamphetamine.
The state police public relations officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed it. According to him, the state commissioner of police, Mr Echeng Echeng, has ordered that the suspect be tracked down and that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
Meanwhile, the suspect is said to have been arrested by a vigilante group as shown in video clips and photos.
