Motorists and passengers Thursday morning spent hours parked along Enugu-Opi-Nsukka road as security operatives battle kidnappers operating along the road.

The incident happened at Ekwegbe area of the road. Our correspondent, who was at the scene, saw reinforced soldiers on motorcycles moving to join forces with police operatives on the arena.

Recall that some people, including students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who were returning to Nsukka after the suspension of the strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, were allegedly abducted on Sunday.

Enugu State Police Command, Wednesday, said it had deployed operatives to rescue the abductees. The position was contained in a statement by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.

As at the time of filing this report, the road has been cleared, but motorists were reluctant to move. A Prado, with a burst tyre, was seen being driven to yet-to-be-completed police barracks at Ekwegbe.

A parked mini-bus was seen at the scene of the incident, with heavy presence of police and army.
