By Adadainfo

University lecturers that recently called off their strike after eight months of no salary have received half of their respective monthly salaries.

The calculation shows that the teachers of the nation’s ivory towers were paid for 18 days in the month of October, 2022, which means the counting began shortly after the strike was called off.

A lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, on condition of anonymity, told our correspodent that it was incredible.

He said, “One had even expected at least the salary of the month of October, but we only got half. An you are talking about a class of people that last earned their salaries in February or thereabouts.”

A senior lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, who identified himself as Meletus, said, “I think the federal government is yet to learn their lessons. Subjecting lecturers to further hardship will simply lower their morale.

“Above all, some of us are currently relocating to remote countries like Burundi, Kenya and Cameroon where their prospects are brighter.”
