Ekweremadu Risks Losing 40 Property As Court Grants Forfieture Application

A Federal High Court of Abuja, Friday, granted an interim forfeiture application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against 40 property purportedly belonging to Senator Ike Ekweremadu, representing Enugu West senatorial district of Enugu State.

Ekweremadu, a former deputy Senate president and ex-speaker, parliament of the Economic Community of West African States, is currently being detained by a UK court over an alleged organ transplant atrempt of a minor.

The forfieture application was granted by Justice Inyang Ekwo following an exparte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against Ekweremadu.

Ibrahim Buba, counsel to EFCC, informed the court that some property belonging to Ekweremadu, allegedly located in Dubai, United States and across Nigeria, were likely acquired illegally.

Buba prayed the court to grant the motion for investigations.

Justice Ekwo granted the interim forfeiture order. He also ordered that the granting be published in national dailies for public interrogations before the court coukd rule on it.

The matter was adjourned to Dec 5 2022 for report on any objections.
