The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Tinubu,Thursday, promised to make South-East Nigeria ‘the Taiwan of Asia’ if elected president in 2023 general elections.
Tinubu made the promise when he campaigned in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital. Our correspodent reports that the ex-governor of Lagos State was received by tumultuous crowd across party lines.
Tinubu described age-long problems associated with South East as peculiar, and promised to find a lasting solution to them
In his words, “With the spirit of oneness, togetherness and unity, we will ensure the progess of our country. It is only a progressive party that can change Nigeria. For the past 16 years of the PDP government, we had no steady electricity in Nigeria.
“We are progressives. We will do the right thing, and we will move Nigeria forward. We will make South-East Nigeria the Taiwan of Asia. We came in 2015 and we came to realize that transformation is a must for economic resuscitation and progress.”
On the fate of agitators for the actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Tinubu said, “We want peace. We will talk to all the agitators. This thing is not done by conflicts.”
On the falling education standards in the country, he said, “Our children’s education is very important for our today and tomorrow. We are working hard because education is the greatest weapon to poverty. We are going to reform our schools.
“Education is the greatest weapon against poverty. We are going to give our children education and reform our schools. We are not going to be in crisis like other parties; we are going to succeed and we are going to win this election.”
The high point of the rally was the conferment of the title of ‘Dike di ora mma of Igbo land’ on Tinubu by Ebonyi traditional institution.
