The commissioner of police, Enugu State, CP Ahmed Ammani, has appealed for peace during the planned nationwide protest of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) today.

The CP made the appeal in a statement by the state police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.

According to Ndukwe, “The CP assured them of necessary security and safety during the protest. While they have the constitutional right to protest, they must do so in the most orderly manner, given the security challenges inherent in conducting protests in these times.”

CP Ammani, therefore, charged the organized labour to conduct the ‘protest in line with set-out plans to avoid breach of public peace and/or having miscreants hijack the exercise’.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Enugu State Chapter of TUC, Comrade Ben Asogwa, had during a visit to the commissioner, assured of maximum cooperation with the police and the orderly conduct of their members during the exercise.

The organised Labour is embarking on a nationwide protest against some of President Bola Tinubu’s harsh economic policies which they claim are burdensome to Nigerians.
