African Football League: Enyimba Suffer Home Defeat

Enyimba FC, coached by Finidi George, Sunday, lost to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco by one nil in a match played at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

The decisive goal was scored by Wydad skipper Yahya Jabrane from the penalty spot in the 39th minute. Enyimba had opportunities to find the back of the net, but were wasteful in front of the goal post. In injury time, Enyimba defender Somiari Alalibo was shown a red card after VAR review.

The second leg will be played on Wednesday in Casablanca with the winners of the tie progressing to the semifinal to face the winner between Mazembe and Esperance who will face off in the same day at the Stade Olympique de Radès in Tunisia.

Mazembe hosted Esperance Sportive of Tunisia in Lubumbashi and won 1-0, thanks to a header from Cheikh Fofana in the 11th minute. The goal came from a corner delivered by Philippe Kinzumbi.

The Tunisians pressed for an equalizer but were frustrated by a solid Mazembe backline.
