Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North in the Senate, says the ambition of Labour Party’s Mr Peter Obi or any other Igbo person to be elected Nigeria’s president in 2023 will not materialise because ‘presidency is not a regional issue’.
Orji, who is the chief whip of the Senate, told reporters at the National Assembly complex, Tuesday, that an Igbo man would only emerge president of Nigeria if he works with other ethnic groups in the country.

According to him, the failure of political parties to zone their presidential tickets to South East made him withdraw from the 2023 presidential election.
Quoting him, “Presidency is not a regional issue. I asked the political parties to zone presidency to South-East. When they didn’t do that, I had to withdraw.
“I have no problem with an Igbo man being president. But we have to do it with other Nigerians. If we don’t do it with other Nigerians, it is not going to work, no matter how popular you are. It is president of Nigeria not president of Igbo land.”
