Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Friday, appointed Prof James Chukwuma Ogbonna as the vice chancellor of the newly established Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
Ogbonna, a professor of microbiology and biotechnology, was until his appointment a deputy vice chancellor (academics) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was also a member of UNN’s Governing Council, the statement added.
His appointment was contained in a release signed by the secretary to the state government, Prof Simon Uchenna Ortuanya.
It takes effect from Friday the 2nd day of September, 2022, our correspondent gathered.
It would be recalled that the National Universities Commission, a few months ago, licensed the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS) to operate as a full university, making it the first of its kind East of the Niger.
