The Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, yesterday, awarded N155, 000, 000.00 (one hundred and fifty-five million naira only) in damages to the family of the late PA to Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor who was killed and burnt inside a car when Ejiofor’s country home in Anambra was invaded.
Recall that security operatives invaded his home on the pretext that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra were holding a meeting there. The late aide was killed during the invasion. Ejiofor had approached the court on human rights violation.
The judgement was announced by Barr Ejiofor via his Facebook post.
According to him, “Today (yesterday) being the 27th day of October 2022, the Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, delivered a landmark judgment in a Fundamental Rights Suit we filed on behalf of Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor’s late personal assistant (PA), Samuel Okoro (aka Biggy), who was gruesomely murdered in Sir Ejiofor’s ancestral home in Oraifite, Anambra State, on the 6th day of June 2021, by the joint team of the Nigeria Police Force personnel, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and one Mr Chukwuka Chizorom (aka Ijele Speaks).
“These soulless security agents listed above did not stop at killing Sir Ejiofor’s PA in cold blood, they proceeded to dump his lifeless body inside the booth of Sir Ejiofor’s Toyota Camry car, and consequently, set his lifeless body ablaze along with Sir Ejiofor’s Toyota Camry car that they stole during the bloody invasion of his peaceful ancestral home.
“His Lordship, Per Hon Justice H. A. Nganjiwa, in his landmark but erudite judgment under reference, found the Nigeria Police Force personnel, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and Mr Chukwuka Chizorom aka (Ijele Speaks), liable for the gruesome and genocidal murder of Mr Samuel Okoro aka (Biggy).
“His lordship, consequently, directed the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS, the Nigerian Army, and Mr Chukwuka Chizorom aka Ijele Speaks, to pay a cumulative sum of NGN155,000, 000.00 (one hundred and fifty-five million naira, only) to the deceased family as general and exemplary damages. These agents of darkness – the security agents above named – who were hugely indicted in the court’s judgment were further ordered by the court to tender unreserved apologies in two national dailies to the family of the late Mr Okoro.
“The head of the Nigeria Police Force (the Inspector General of Police), the director general of the DSS, and the chief of Army Staff were ordered by the court to immediately identify those soulless agents involved in this crime against humanity for immediate sanctioning and prosecution. The full judgment of the court will be made public in the next 48 hours.
“We seize this medium to call on the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rtd General Muhammad Buhari, to direct the Inspector General of Police, the director general of the DSS, and the chief of Army Staff to immediately comply with this positive declarations of a court of competent jurisdiction.”
Ejiofor, in the post, called on the director general of the DSS ‘to immediately and unconditionally release’ the trio of his domestic staff, Mr Felix Okonkwo, Mr Lawrence Ugochukwu Okafor, and
Mr Ikenna Chibuike.
He stated that they were abducted by ‘these agents of darkness in security uniforms, during the bloody onslaught’ in his home on 6th June 2021, and still detained at the DSS Headquarters, Abuja, to date.
He added, “The sanctity of judicial processes and pronouncements must be respected, and the hour is now. It is important to stress that injustice breads anarchy, while justice breads peace. Enough is enough!”
Ejiofor wished his deceased aide well, adding that, “Daniel has finally come to justice. The hour has come! In the coming days, we will be addressing a world press conference to drive these disturbing salient points home.”
